How to animate in Roblox?

In this article, we are going to discuss the features of the Roblox Animation editor. It allows you to design and upload animations on Roblox. In order to animate in rocash Roblox you will have to follow these procedures:

  1. Open the Plug-In tabs and click on the Animator Editor icon
  2. Select the rig for which you have to design the animations
  3. Type in a new animation-name and click Create to proceed
  4. It will open an editor window displaying the tracklist and timeline of your animation

How to create poses

In order to animate a rig, you will need to create poses. This step is easy. All you have to do is click on the body parts that you want to move to your avatar. You can turn the head, feet, hands of your avatar. In order to create a pose, open the Animation Editor, and follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Scrubber Bar and move it in the position where you want to set the pose for your animation
  2. Move your cursor over the rig and click on the part which you want to select
  3. You can now move or turn your part in the desired orientation. This will create a new Keyframe along the timeline. This is indicated by a Diamond symbol
  4. Keep rotating and moving the parts until you get the desired orientation
  5. Once you have finalized your animation, you can preview it by clicking on the Play button which is present in the upper left corner of the editor window.

Adding keyframes to your animation

Once you have finalized the pose for your animation, you can add keyframes to modify your final animation. In order to add keyframes, follow these steps:

  1. In order to add a keyframe to a single part of your rig, move your Scrubber bar to a new position. Then click on the button which is indicated by three dots. From there select the Add Keyframe option
  2. In order to add keyframes to multiple parts of the rig, right-click the area above the tracks and click Add Keyframe option

How to move a keyframe

You can also increase or decrease the time between two keyframes and for this purpose:

  1. Select any keyframe from your timeline. You can select all the keyframes by clicking on the diamond button. A blue border will appear around the selected keyframe
  2. You can adjust the positioning of keyframes by dragging them in left or right directions

How to copy a keyframe

Once you have adjusted the position of your keyframe, you can copy-paste it to a new location in your timeline.

Follow these steps:

  1. Select any keyframe from your timeline
  2. Press the Ctrl+C key from your keyboard
  3. Now move your Scrubber bar to a new location on the timeline
  4. Press Ctrl+V to paste your keyframe to the new position

How to delete keyframes

You can also delete one or more keyframes by simply pressing the Backspace or Delete button

How to change easing for keyframes

Easing is one of the fundamental parts of animation as it allows you to move or rotate a keyframe into a steady motion which is called Linear easing. This makes your character`s animation appear more solid and robotic. In order to customize the easing for one or more keyframes you will have to follow these steps:

  • Click on the keyframes to select them for easing
  • Now right-click to open the menu and from there select the Easing Style menu
  • You can select a variety of easing styles including Linear, Constant, Cubic, Elastic, Bounce
  • Now select the Easing Direction. There are three directions available, Out, Inout and In

Animation Settings

Here we are going to talk about some important animation settings

  • Looping

It allows you to perform a repetitive animation. You can turn the looping on or off by clicking on the Looping button in the animation editor.

  • Priority

Priority allows you to change the state and action of your animation. You can choose different animations for different players. One animation takes priority over the other and the character will not perform both animations at the same time. There are four priority levels to choose from and you can select them as follows:

  1. Click on the three-dot icon which is present in the upper left corner of your editor window
  2. Select the Set Animation Priority It will display four priority animation in front of you, ranging from low to high priority as follows:
  • Core
  • Idle
  • Movement
  • Action

How to make the event track visible

In order to show your animation events you will have to follow these steps:

  1. Click on the gear icon which is present on the right side of your timeline
  2. From there select the Show Animation Events option and it will reveal your events

How to create a new event

In order to create a new event marker you will have to follow these steps:

  1. Position your Scrubber bar on your timeline at the point where you want to create a new event
  2. Now in order to edit the markers at the selected positions on the timeline, click on the Edit Animation Event option
  3. A new window will pop up on your screen. From there select the Add Event option
  4. Write an event name
  5. You can also add a parameter string for your event from the Parameter field
  6. Once you are satisfied with your event click on the Save It will register your event and a new marker will be displayed in the editor`s events bar

How to clone an event

In this section, we are going to discuss how you can replicate an event as it helps in saving time while creating similar events. This will make your events usable throughout the animation.  So in order to clone an event you will have to follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Event Marker which is present in your event bar
  2. Press Ctrl+C to copy the event marker
  3. Now move your Scrubber Bar to the location where you want to clone your event and press Ctrl+V

How to use your animation in an actual Roblox game

Once you have finalized your animation, you can use it in a Roblox game by exporting your animation to Roblox. For this purpose you will have to follow these steps:

  1. Click on the three-dot icon which is present in the upper left corner of your editor window
  2. A menu will be displayed on your screen. Click on the Export option
  3. Now select whether you want to create a new option or you are willing to overwrite an existing animation
  4. After this, your animation will begin to upload
  5. Note the Asset ID which is present in your URL. This ID is necessary for scripting animations
